Pirin Mountains, Bulgaria
The complete guide to Bulgaria's ski capital. Runs, hotels, prices and live snow conditions on one page.
Bansko now 7°C Overcast Top -3°CWe are one of the teams that know Bansko best in Turkey. Every winter for years we have taken guests to Bansko, chosen their hotels and been with them on the slopes and in the taverns. This guide brings that experience together in one place.
What sets Bansko apart from the Alps is how skiing and the town blend together. In the morning the gondola takes you up in 25 minutes, in the evening you ski back to town and eat banska kapama in a tavern on 18th-century stone streets. Prices are well below Western European resorts: in the 2025/26 season a day pass was about €59 and ski rental about €19.
The town is lively not only in winter but in summer too. Pirin National Park has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1983; glacial lakes, Vihren peak (2,914 m) and the Bansko Jazz Festival in late July fill the summer season.

We put hotel, ski pass, ski school and transport into one package. We usually reply within minutes.
An early gondola after breakfast. The ride from town to Banderishka Polyana takes about 25 minutes; getting on before 08:30 cuts the queue a lot.
The snow is at its best in the morning. Beginners on the wide blue runs around Banderishka, experienced skiers on the reds and blacks towards Todorka.
Soup, kachamak and mulled wine in the huts on the slopes. The runs get quieter in the afternoon.
If weather and snow allow, you ski back to town on the ski road; otherwise you ride the gondola down.
Après-ski in the bars on the gondola street or the hotel spa. The Dobrinishte and Banya thermal pools are a few kilometres away.
Stone taverns, live folk music, banska kapama and Melnik wine in the old town.
We are on the ground every season. We know the hotels, slopes, transfer routes and taverns first hand.

Bulgaria is in Schengen. We help with the visa document list and the application.
Bansko is a town in south-west Bulgaria at 936 m at the foot of the Pirin Mountains. It is about 160 km from Sofia Airport.
The best time for skiing is January and February. The season opens in mid-December and closes in mid-April. March offers better prices and sunny days. In summer people come for Pirin hikes and the jazz festival.
Bulgaria has been a full Schengen member since 2025. Turkish citizens can enter with a Bulgarian visa or a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa. Orjinaltur helps tour participants with the visa process.
Clearly cheaper than the Alps. In the 2025/26 season an adult day pass cost €59, a half day €46 and ski rental about €19 a day.
Bulgaria has used the euro since 1 January 2026. Card payment is common; a little cash is useful for small taverns.
By road it takes 8-10 hours depending on the route and border traffic. By plane, Istanbul - Sofia is about 1 hour 20 minutes and the Sofia - Bansko transfer is 2-2.5 hours.
